We are still here, but typical tool shed activity is currently on hold while we work with the city to relocate the tool shed. The current lending system in not efficient and the space is not practical, which is why we are not lending tools at this time; it is not because we do not have enough volunteers. We are optimistic a solution with the city will be worked out that will make the tool shed an effective asset for both the community and its volunteers who run it. Once we have a new and appropriate space, we will be ready to lend tools again and will need more volunteers. Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience!
If you're not familiar with this tool, it's designed to hold sheets of drywall in place for you while you fasten them to the studs. Some basic directions are here.
So if you need a
lawnmower, pruning shears, caulk gun, bolt cutters, wheelbarrow, or any
of 120 other hand and power tools, you're in luck! If you're a Mount
Rainier resident, you can borrow them free of charge from the Tool Shed.
On
Sunday, March 8, the volunteers who make the Tool Shed happen will be
on hand from noon until 3pm. Stop on by and say hello, meet the tools,
ask any questions you have about how it works over light refreshments.
We'll be in the backyard of the Tool Shed building at 3601 Bunker Hill
Road (down the street from Glut - the same building as the bike co-op).
And who wants to store things that take up space but get use rarely? Instead of buying, borrow!

The Tool Shed has items to borrow that are large or expensive that you may not want cluttering your home such as a generator, a fleet of reel lawn mowers, an air compressor and a large drill.
We've got a ton of tools in the Tool Shed's inventory that you can borrow. Tool appreciators like the writer at CoolTools is a fan of borrowing what you need instead of buying:

"Most people are unaware of the vast variety of expert tools available for rental from any decent rental store. The choices are mind-boggling and inspiring. Many of these tools will make a tough job easy and smooth."

Looking at this list of cool rental tools points out some of the gaps in our current library. Pipe locator, airless paint sprayer, electric conveyor belt or horizontal drill and more...what would you like to use from this list?
Prince George's Dept. of Environmental Resources has a new program that helps residents and organizations improve our use of water. On a rainy day like today imagine how much water you could store in your cistern, rain barrels or rain gardens. Besides that you'll get some rebate money to help you complete the project. For a full list of rebates and how to apply check out their website at http://www.princegeorgescountymd.gov/sites/StormwaterManagement/RainCheck.
